They say you never forget…

Today, 3/10/22, we decided not to do the higher altitude hike when I realized we had to go to an altitude between EBC and Kili - an increase of 1700 feet - in about 2.5 hours. I was sad. We decided instead to get some things done in the morning and do a bike ride in the afternoon. The ride was called Ayllus. Weather was hot and clear and the ride was 13.5 miles.

Last time I rode a bike was in 2013 when I used to ride to work at DDN and I never rode a mountain bike, so this was a new experience. Although difficult at first, I rather got into it. The 2 hour ride was about an hour too long and it got very uncomfortable- especially because the road was very bumpy. We rode to Beter which was one of the first Atacemeno settlements and we could still see some of the ruins. If I understood correctly, Beter was small village where the Spaniards would forcibly co-locate the locals in about 1540. We rode from Beter to Solar where there is supposed to be one of the first book stores, but not interesting. From here back to the hotel.

In the evening Chris got sick - probably a combination of the heat and altitude. We were supposed to go stargazing again, but the guide told me she would be showing the same things as last time, so I went back to the room for an early night.
