Our Last Full Day in Uganda

January 19, 2026 - from the itinerary: Day at Leisure.

We had a nice sunrise caught on time lapse.

Chris and I spent a lovely morning doing nothing. Basically, trying to get a handle on outstanding things from the "no internet" days. There was quite a rain storm in the morning, so was glad I wasn't hiking.

Part of the group went for a boat ride on Lake Mutanda. Amongst other places, they stopped at Skeleton Island. This is a historic uninhabited island where traditionally the Ugandans would abandon pregnant unmarried girls and the elderly to die. If the girls could swim, they bound them so they wouldn't be able to swim off. The bones with desiccated flesh are still visible.

The "boys" went kayaking - evidently quite a far way - but seemed to enjoy it.

No one enjoyed the walk down to, or up from, the waterfront. By all accounts it was very steep and slippery.

The afternoon held a nice surprise of a yoga class lead by Lisa. It was a wonderful venue and a great teacher.

As part of our last dinner, we bought a couple bottles of champagne to toast a wonderful trip and as a thank you to Lisa for the Yoga class and for organizing everything. Dinner was a local meal of beans and peanut sauces on banana, sweet potato or rice.

Oscar and Jack joined us for our final dinner. The speeches went on a bit too long for me, but dinner was nice.
