Today, July 13, 2022, we decided to visit Locrum, our first island of many off the shore of Dubrovnik. It is 600 meters off the port at Dubrovnik and we could take a small ferry the 10 minutes it takes to get there.
At the top of the island-315 feet- there is an old fort built by the French during Napoleon’s occupation of Croatia. The Austrian Emperor Maximilian also has a holiday home there and a(n unremarkable) botanical garden and monastery remain from the Emperor’s time.
So after a breakfast at the hotel we wondered down to the dock and caught the ferry to the island. We walked all around the island, following the numbered path, to see all the sites. The weather was hot and sunny- at least 29 degrees.
Most impressive were the many peacocks with their chicks.
And the water- There were several areas for swimming and the water was so beautiful, but so cold. I stuck my toe in.
Along the way there were beautiful views of a huge yacht moored near the old town and one of the sailing cruise ships. We never did find out who owned the yacht. I now understand why it is so popular to sail the Adriatic as the shore and waters are so beautiful.
You can’t go anywhere without game of thrones and they had an Iron Throne ofwhich I had to have a picture.
I worked out between our return and dinner. Chris took a nap.
We want to Pronto for dinner. This is in the old town and is a Michelin star restaurant which was amazingly disappointing. I had a frozen ginger margarita and Chris had a flavored G&T. I had local scallops and sea bass, Chris had tuna tartare and lobster with pasta. Here are some pictures of the appetizers and drinks and environment. The environment was very romantic.
We were able to spy a cat going home into an attic window.
We walked back via the GOT “walk of shame”.
Later that night we were treated to a “super moon” over the Adriatic.
Neither of us felt great after dinner. I’d rate today as probably the second worst day of the trip.
